hey everyone! i'm so excited that TODAY is my turn to contribute to the sweet as honey blog tour!(yes, i put myself on the schedule. i couldn't resist joining in on the fun! #dork.) i've been determined to spruce up our guest room for a while now and decided that the all white bed needed some colorful pillow cases and lots of pillows. i mean, can you ever have too many pillows? i actually made 8 pillow cases, but that many pillows on the bed just looked ridiculous. so six it is.
for this project, i used missouri star quilting co's super easy video tutorial on how to make atube pillow case. i also (of course) used my latest fabric line sweet as honey and even threw in a little of my first line, reminisce. see it? since the video does such a great job showing step by step instructions, i decided not to include a tutorial here but instead direct you to their video. you can watch it here.
to prep for this project though, all you need is:
- 3/4 yard for the case
- 9" coordinating strip for the cuff
- 2" coordinating strip for the trim
there's a really fun trick to this project that i can't quite wrap my brain around. basically, you roll everything up into a tube, sew a little and out comes a pillow case. (haha!) the video tutorial does a nice job at explaining the entire process though and it's very easy to follow.
sidenote: you could also easily use this technique to make pretty hemmed curtains, table runners, skirts and more!
i think it has added just the right punch of color to this room (though i should probably go a head and apologize to all of david's cycling buddies that will be staying here, surrounded by flowers. sorry guys!).
