I know, I know. CDs seem a little antiquated. But I use them once a year for two purposes, and I’m so glad I do! Let me explain –
This ‘day in age’ it’s so easy to snap photos and videos straight from our many capable devices. They then proceed to get shared on Instagram, uploaded to Facebook, or perhaps texted to family. Oftentimes soon after, they become lost. Lost in a ‘feed’, lost in our messages. Sometimes they become lost forever – thanks to hard drive crashes, devices getting lost or stolen, and social media accounts get wiped (oh no!).
So once a year, I take all our favorite videos from our phones and compile them into one huge ‘home video’ (remember those?!). I then burn DVDs for everyone in our family. (Of course, DVDs can be lost or broken, too. So I back them up on my external hard drive and save them in as many place as possible!) I also do the same thing with our photos. Saving them to a disk and giving them to our loved ones makes them so special, and easy to hold on to. (I also make a beautiful Artifact Uprising book each year with all of our photos in it – if you’re interested I’ll share about those on my blog next week!).
If this inspires you to do the same, I hope today’s downloads will help you tremendously! I’ve made templates for both CD labels and the CD envelopes. You can use the PDF (editable in Illustrator) to design and print them yourself, then cut out along the lines. -OR- if you have a cutting machine like a Silhouette, you can use the .SVG files to design your own and cut them our on your handy machine!
> DOWNLOAD THE PDF HERE >> Open the PDF in either Photoshop or Illustrator to edit them as you wish. Design your labels and envelopes, then print and cut out along the lines.
> DOWNLOAD THE .SVG FILES HERE >> Open the .SVG file either in Illustrator or directly in Silhouette Studio to edit them as you please. The easiest way to use .SVG files is to keep all of the ‘cutting shapes’ in one layer, and your designs in another. Then select the layer you’d like to cut once your in Silhouette Studio.
Here are a few of my favorite resources I used for this project!
Memories are so important and these make great gifts for family! I hand them out to the grandparents at my little’s birthday party each year and have the DVD play in the background as we have dinner. It makes for such a special day!
