For months, I heart-stormed the vision, curated the details, connected with speakers, and created the schedule for our annual virtual event, Immersion LIVE that took place October 7-9, 2021. Behind the scenes, we’ve been heads down, hearts open to deliver that experience, and it went so well! We are still buzzing from the event and humbled at the amazing feedback we've gotten from attendees. And it’s time to share the recap with YOU!
Balance: The 3 Stages
Immersion LIVE is an event for creatives with a theme of BALANCING inspiration, creation, and rejuvenation. For two and a half days, we came together to study balance in these three phases. Having delivered this content to a group of very receptive and reflective attendees, I believe now more than ever that balance is essential for resiliency, long-term consistency, and growth.
Without inspiration and information, we won’t grow.
Without creation and implementation, we won’t succeed.
Without rejuvenation and play, we will burn out.
We must continually seek inspiration and gather information. We must create and implement the information that we gathered. We must rest to refill the DEEP reservoirs of our creativity.
Together with approximately 700 creatives, we enjoyed two very full days of learning, implementation, and creative play. The event had an unparalleled lineup of creative entrepreneurs, artists, and surface pattern designers who were ready to share their hearts and minds, and they over-delivered!
To prepare, the speakers and I focused our hearts and minds on the most important questions: How could we inspire those of you attending? How could we make an impact on your lives? How could we help advance your careers? How could we truly make a difference?
Deciding on the theme for this year came fairly easy. It took just a few moments of asking ourselves - what do we feel our community needed most?
It bubbled right to the surface. BALANCE. We need balance. We need to fuel the deep reservoirs of our creativity. We set a goal to refresh the imagination of our attendees to help them achieve their most momentous business goals. I know how precious your creativity is, and it must be nourished, encouraged and taken care of. I’m on a personal mission to help you do more of that.
As I've deeply pondered the subject, I think the hardest thing about balance is actually transitioning from one phase to the next. It’s so easy to stay stuck in one phase. It’s the moving from one to the next that’s so hard.
Where You Might Get Stuck
1. Inspiration (looks like gathering information)
2. Creation (looks like implementing the info you gathered)
3. Rejuvenation (looks like rest and play)
I’ve been SO stuck in each of these phases before. For me:
Stuck in Phase 1 (Inspiration) looks like: Reading books, taking classes and gathering inspiration but failing to actually do the work or implement anything I learn. It’s actually easier to learn than it is to implement what I learn.
The solution: Move into the Creation stage. You have everything you need to begin. Just get started.
Stuck in Phase 2 (Creation) looks like: Being so BUSY, so DEEP IN THE DOING that I have no time to actually learn anything new. Staying in this phase too long results in BURNOUT.
The solution: Plan for Rejuvenation. Reevaluate your deadline or schedule a mid-project break.
Stuck in Phase 3 (Rejuvenation) looks like: Being too overwhelmed to even start. This has happened to me a few times - I stayed in rest mode so long that I forgot what it felt like to start doing again.
The solution: Start gathering Inspiration for the very next project on your to-do list. Increase your motivation by planning the outline and scheduling periods of Creation.
At Immersion LIVE, we came together to explore what we must do to transition from one phase to the next and maintain balance of the three on any given day, week, month and year. Of course we’ll have seasons heavy in one phase or another, but recognizing it and doing what we need to do to transition to the next phase is what we’ll keep us balanced.
Join the Discussion
Even though this event has passed, it’s not too late to join the discussion over on Instagram: What phase are you currently STUCK IN? What phase do you need to transition to? And if you feel balanced (YAY!), tell me what you’re working on!
In the coming weeks, we’ll be breaking down the topic of BALANCE here, on my blog.
I’m going to introduce you to the unparalleled lineup of artists, surface designers and creative entrepreneurs that came together to share their secrets at Immersion LIVE to teach our attendees how to build balance into their lives and businesses.
Then, I’m going to share with you some of our biggest takeaways and attendees’ favorite moments. I’m going to bring you behind the scenes to show you what goes into an event like this. And finally, I’ll give you a glimpse into our exciting plans for next year’s event!
