Our annual virtual event, Immersion LIVE for surface pattern designers and creatives took place October 7-9, 2021. Following up from Part 1 of our recap, today I’m going to introduce you to some of the talented artists, surface designers and entrepreneurs who presented at Immersion LIVE to teach our attendees how to build balance into their lives and businesses.
Together with approximately 700 creatives, we enjoyed two very full days of learning, implementation, and creative play. It was deeply inspiring, full of takeaways, a-ha moments, and motivation built to last.
To prepare, the speakers and I focused our hearts and minds on the most important questions: How could we inspire those of you attending? How could we make an impact on your lives? How could we help advance your careers? How could we truly make a difference?
In this recap, I'll summarize a small sample of our conference sessions, discuss how each of these addressed the theme of balance, and share some main takeaways we learned. In addition to my presentations, we had four keynote speakers and several guest presenters—all of whom filled our minds with insight and inspiration. I’ll be covering the guest keynotes (taking up 1 hour each on the event schedule) in this post, but every single moment of the live event was value-packed!

Fear is Not the Boss of You: Your bold invitation to set ambitious goals and meet them head-on
Jennifer delivered a highly motivational keynote, sharing personal stories of perseverance and vulnerability that left us enraptured and hungry for more! She challenged us to look within and question our thinking, and invited us to embark on a mindset breakthrough surrounding fear (that we may or may not know we had!). She reignited the audience's fire to remember their 'why' (why you started, why you're showing up every day, why it's hard!), and pumped us up with the courage to charge forward with new passion for getting past our fears to achieve our wildest dreams.
At Immersion LIVE, we learned that everyone struggles with fear in some capacity; it's so easy to think we're all alone with our feelings of uncertainty and doubt. And if fear is being the boss of you right now, I encourage you to remember the cycles of balance (pictured above). You have everything you need to begin, don't let fear keep you stuck! Just. start. creating.

Building a Balanced Business: Create the life you want, designed around your highest work, and in a way that allows you to grow sustainably
I just knew Emily was the perfect person for this topic; she balances her life and business better than anybody I know. Emily spoke to us about how to grow a sustainable, healthy business while keeping your creative work at the heart of it. Growth slows when these three things (business, creativity, heart) are out of alignment, but knowledge is power! When you understand how your business is meant to grow, you can nourish all parts of it gently and consistently.
During Emily's presentation, we learned how to identify the pillars of a healthy business, while finding space to play along the way. If you're feeling like your business is running on overdrive, I encourage you to revisit the rejuvenation stage of the balance cycle. Schedule time to renew, rest, play, and relax. You must refill your reservoir of creativity in order to rediscover joy and passion!

Build a Schedule with Margin: Obliterate inefficiencies, busywork, and bad habits to create intentional margin for increased joy and inspiration
Lisa is a leading member of my team with an impressive background of her own in creative entrepreneurship. She presented at Immersion LIVE to help us establish healthier boundaries in both life and business. She showed us how to take a "less, but better" approach to create more impactful results. When you prioritize dial-moving activities, you'll always be ahead of schedule and have goals established as landmarks for the road ahead.
We learned how to add buffer into our calendars and avoid the common phenomenon of planning fallacy (chronically underestimating the time it takes to get work done). If you're feeling painfully behind schedule, I encourage you to go against the grain and take a break! Burnout is a real danger, not only to your goals, but your overall wellbeing. It's time to rest, add some margin to your calendar, and rediscover clarity during rejuvenation.

Discovering Your Personal Style: A step-by-step process for learning how to trust your gut, narrow down your niche and embrace your special sauce
Tessie is another leading member of Team Bonnie Christine and also has an impressive background in creative entrepreneurship. At Immersion Live, she taught us to seek out inspiration and listen to our gut. She asked, what sparks joy for you? And taught us to keep a record and get specific to better identify what creates excitement. With that research, she showed us how to look for patterns and trends to refine our personal style and double down on our individual uniqueness.
If you're feeling out of sorts and all over the map on your signature style, I encourage you to gather further inspiration! Keep record of everything that lights you up, as Tessie advises, and know this will be an ongoing and ever-evolving process.
