30 Lessons from an Entrepreneur
A Journey from Zero to Hero
In November 2009, I took a bold step in my career—I quit my job and launched my full-time creative business. It was a risk, but it was driven by a deep-rooted passion. I share this with you to emphasize that it's not about having all the answers, but about the courage to start.
In the first five years, from 2009 to 2014, I focused intensely on building a solid design portfolio. I set a goal of creating 1,000 patterns. It was ambitious and demanding, but it was a concrete target that kept me focused. This lead me to my first breakthrough: Set clear, ambitious goals. They give you something to strive for and keep you on track.
In 2015, I ventured into teaching by launching my first online course. This was a new direction for me, but it demonstrated an important lesson: Be open to new opportunities. Sometimes, the path you're meant to tread isn't obvious from the start.
Two years later, in 2017, I moved from a one-off course model to a subscription model. This was a strategic decision that marked another major breakthrough: I needed to adapt to meet the changing needs of my audience. It's essential to keep evolving and rethinking your strategies to remain relevant in the dynamic digital landscape.
Finally, in late 2022, I decided to enter the podcasting world. Despite feeling like I was late to the game and facing intense competition, I pushed past my fears. Remember, it's never too late to start something new. Your unique perspective and voice have value.
All through these years, I've been implementing systems in my business, focusing on working in my zone of genius, and helping my team find their own zones of genius. These are not just strategies; they are significant breakthroughs that have helped my business grow and flourish.
Remember, as an entrepreneur, you will start back at zero over and over again as you push through your fears and take on new opportunities and challenges. It's about stepping out of your comfort zone, embracing challenges, and continually learning, adapting, and growing. As I share these breakthroughs with you, remember that each one represents a new beginning, a new learning opportunity, and a step closer to achieving your entrepreneurial dreams.
