I loved how the Immersion Course was laid out step-by-step! I really liked having structured modules and lessons that we could move through. The content was organized so well and was presented in such a logical order. Gone was the previous confusion and overwhelm from when I was trying to teach myself how to use Illustrator and create repeat patterns. I could confidently move into the upcoming modules knowing we had covered the essential skills in the previous section(s). It was super helpful to visually track the progress I was making on the course platform as well!
Before the Immersion Course, I had been trying to learn about surface pattern design and how to use Illustrator. I was looking up so many different resources and felt like there were big gaps in my understanding of the design process. Not to mention that each designer has a different method, so I ended up pretty confused. I had so many questions and felt like I couldn’t get the answers. I had so many creative ideas and dreams but the technical skills and knowledge were a barrier. And I’m not exaggerating when I say that I cried so many times just trying to figure out Illustrator.
Bonnie is absolutely lovely. She and her team are so helpful and genuine. The team responds very very quickly to support you and answer questions! There is such a nice community of students and the environment is encouraging and non-competitive.
After taking the Immersion Course, I feel much more confident in my design skills and knowledge. I no longer fear Illustrator. In fact, I would say that I LOVE using it and all of the shortcuts!! Since the Immersion course finished, I have been working hard to create my own stationery line. There are lots of products I’m going to create, but right now I’m focusing on greeting cards and matching envelopes with patterned liners! All of my work is bright, bold, and fun and aims to bring joy! I now have a big body of work and have been doing lots of research for printers and suppliers.
I am planning to launch the greeting card line this year and then pitch my products to stationery shops to purchase wholesale. I also designed a postcard calendar that was fully created in Illustrator using my new skills. I launched a prototype of this calendar and will aim to sell it in 2023! I am in the process of creating a website with an e-commerce platform so I can sell my products directly to customers as well!
I took the leap and joined Instagram after the Immersion course. I’ve been enjoying learning about the platform and sharing my process with my followers! I am super proud to say that I created a nine-page digital portfolio! I recently submitted my portfolio to a screenprinting shop that collaborates with artists.
I’m also still a part of my peer group and we meet once a month online! I am working full-time as a Speech-Language Pathologist, but I always make time to do one thing a day to build my business and my art practice! I’m excited about my side hustle and where it’ll take me!
Bonnie’s motto “one thing a day” has really stuck with me. These words are a constant mental reminder to take steps towards my goals, even if they are small. It’s helped me to build a daily, purposeful routine where I make sure to carve out time for surface pattern design.
Do it!!! It’s so legit, so fun, and so worth your time and money!!! I was on the fence too. I was concerned that maybe the content wouldn’t really cover what I wanted and needed to learn. I’m also not a person who makes online purchases. So I was definitely questioning making a big investment in a program that takes place online from a stranger!! But I tell ya: Immersion was AMAZING and so much more than I expected!!
Yes, it’s an investment, but if this is what you dream about doing, then I think it’s a fabulous investment in yourself and your dreams! If you’re feeling completely overwhelmed and frustrated with trying to teach yourself about surface pattern design and want to learn in a structured, supportive and encouraging environment, sign up!!!
