The best part of Immersion for me was the detailed training on each subject which you can take at your own pace and had a team waiting on the other side for your questions to help guide you along. It is really the best class I have ever taken! The skill that I have acquired and will always cherish is pattern making. The whole process is from story to design to digital. I love it.
Before Immersion, I owned a small little shop where I sold craft vinyl supplies and also rented out spaces to other artists and vintage vendors. I ended up closing my shop in May 2020 and moved into another shop as a vendor. I was getting tired of vinyl so I started to explore other careers and thought about going back to school for graphic design and I came across the Facebook ad for Immersion!
I took a chance and dove into the free mini-course and loved it and decided to go all-in and pay for Immersion. I even bought Illustrator, a new monitor, and later an iPad Pro! During Immersion I had so much confidence that I could make this work that in May 2021 I decided to sell my business to focus on my new dream of becoming a surface pattern designer. I even decided on a new business name and opened an LLC, paid for a domain name, and opened social media accounts.
I honestly wasn’t worried at all about taking Immersion, I was so excited to learn! I even toned down on volunteering and actually said no to people which is hard for me. I made time each day to take my classes and write notes on everything.
I remember making my first pattern, I was so excited and was showing all my friends and family. It was so easy for me. And I realized that my whole life of crafting from growing up to dabbling in random things like stained glass was all setting me up for this career! It was one of those moments where you look back and can see all the puzzle pieces align.
After Immersion I was sad because I really missed the learning process. I made my first collection which I was proud of because it told my journey of crafting. I opened a Spoonflower with the new collection. I was so excited when I got my first sample of fabric, I made that!
We all deserve to be happy and find something we love to do and hopefully make that into our career. Immersion is so worth the investment. Even though I have not made any money “yet” I am still glad I took the plunge and am looking forward to the future and my dream coming true.
I can see on the horizon for me a great brand. Home decor fabrics and wallpaper. Stationery and office products. Known for inspirational and Bible scriptures for everyday life. A subscription box. A website with POD tees, art prints, craft, and embroidery patterns. This is my dream and I can’t wait to share it with you once it comes true. I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about it!
I don’t have monetary success yet or haven’t landed that big contract but I still consider myself a success! I see my plans on paper, now I just need to show up and make it happen one day at a time!
Thank you Bonnie for this amazing course and community! You have instilled a dream in me that I never knew I had. I’m so excited to see what the future holds.
