I left Immersion with the confidence, knowledge, and portfolio to pitch to art directors within 3 months!
Up until the pandemic I was working in various creative fields, including events styling, millinery, and floristry. When Covid hit, all my work dried up overnight. I needed to find a new creative outlet that was more flexible and forgiving and one that would eventually allow me to work from anywhere in the world.
When I discovered Bonnie on Skillshare, I fell in love with the idea of surface pattern design as a career. With my new creative goals in place, I knew I wanted to invest in my future by fast-tracking my education, so Immersion was the perfect fit for me.
I had no reservations in signing up to Immersion, as I completely trusted the lovely Bonnie, and her alumni gave such glowing recommendations, just as I am doing now. I cherished the entire experience, but particularly the easy-to-follow Illustrator tutorials.
Prior to taking the course, learning Illustrator was the biggest roadblock I faced. It just wouldn’t ‘click’ for me and I wondered if I’d ever master it. By the end of the course I was so comfortable with the program and able to use shortcuts like a pro, and any time I did stumble, there was always someone from the wonderful support team to help. The other thing that is priceless about Immersion is the friends I have made along the way; peers and mentors who have helped me and inspired me.
Yes, it was a financial commitment, but within a few months of finishing Immersion, I had a portfolio I could proudly pitch to art directors. I quickly signed a two collection deal with PBS Fabrics which was a dream come true for me.
In 2022 I am looking forward to building my portfolio, creating new collections, and attracting more licensing deals.
If you’re on the fence about joining Immersion I cannot recommend it highly enough; it literally has changed my life.
