Aloha! Before I found Bonnie Christine, I was a gal trying to figure out what I wanted to do in life. I had gone to University, received a degree in Business marketing, and was working for a real estate firm. I would come home after work and finally do the things that really brought me joy; painting, drawing, and sewing.
When I discovered Bonnie Christine, I took all her classes on Skillshare and signed up for her newsletters.
I really liked her style of teaching and I was blown away by this industry that I never even heard of! I was hooked from that point on and I was trying to teach myself as much as I could about the industry.
When Immersion re-opened in 2019, I signed up! It was an amazing feeling. I was really excited to learn more about Adobe Illustrator (I had taught myself as much as I could at that point) and I was excited to hear Bonnie's take on how she designed her patterns and collections.
I had a great time in the 2019 Immersion Course. I learned so much and memorized the shortcuts, which is such a time saver when you're working on AI. The first time I took the course, I mostly just watched the lessons. I took my time applying the lessons throughout the year.
I was juggling working full time and then would watch Bonnie's lessons after work. It took me a couple of years to really feel comfortable with AI. I have a great flow now and I am confident with my workflow. Since I took the 2019 Immersion Course, It took me 2 years to design my first collection.
I now have 3 collections that I love with my whole heart.
I have been licensing with smaller companies in Hawaii and I am getting experience with each license on how to write a contract and tobe more confident negotiating my rate and for certain terms.
I still dream of licensing with a fabric company. I look forward to still developing my signature style and licensing my artwork with several more companies this year.
Kris Wong Design is the dream job I never knew was even possible.
I am so thankful to Bonnie Christine for the Immersion course.
