In addition to my day job as a Radiologic Technologist, I am a self-taught artist and Surface Pattern Designer. I am able to confidently say those words after completing the 2021 Immersion Course offered by Bonnie Christine.
When Bonnie says take your time … do it! The internal lessons are absorbed and curated when you slow down. Yes, you can run through the classes, stress yourself out and complete tasks but when you slow down and immerse yourself, you will absorb the information and the mechanics of the Illustrator program which will allow you to then focus on the creativity and development of your craft.
To become a master at something you must study it and practice it. Creativity also must be practiced. My brother once said to me “You can play a Stradivarius violin, but when the emotion is conveyed … that makes it masterful.” Although this is an example with music, this can be implemented with visual arts.
I have been attending to regular life responsibilities since the end of my Immersion course. As I crave design time, I recall the time management lessons in the Immersion Course. “One thing a day” can be a goal or it can be implemented. I am choosing to implement this practice.
I am making progress, slowly … yet, meaningful … honing and curating my craft with a goal of imparting emotion. You might even say, I am a “below the surface” pattern designer. Thank you, Bonnie Christine!
