Before I learned what surface pattern design was, I owned a beach rental business in Maui. I found Bonnie and thought I would learn Illustrator to design flyers for our shop. I quickly became addicted to making patterns and wanted to put them on everything!
After taking Immersion the entire world opened up.
I had returned from a honeymoon in Japan so inspired. I knew I wanted to put my artwork on stationery products and decided to start by manufacturing my own washi tape and try to wholesale it. Within a few months, I got into one of my top five stores!
Now I look back and just laugh: everything I did was so amateur—but they saw something! Six years later they are still one of my favorite accounts.
After taking Immersion, I really felt like making a living by making my own products to wholesale would be possible. I didn’t feel ready to license yet, so wholesale seemed like an easier option... especially with a storefront to test products in!
I really value the community I have made in Immersion and the Mentorship. These are my people, they understand why you stare at fabric looking for a repeat, they understand the recolor tool obsession and they lift me up when I feel like I’m an imposter. I can’t imagine not having these humans in my life.
If you are on the fence: think of where you want to be in five years. Will this class be a stepping stone to getting you there?
I have met women in their 60s opening illustrator for the first time and starting a second career. I have met mothers learning that they still have something to offer the world while being home with babies.
This course is so incredible in helping you learn a new skill—I can’t put a price tag on it!
I just licensed my first fabric collection and I'm looking forward to it coming out in the world and soaking up the feeling of watching people use it in their projects.
I am excited to create new collections this year. I am also putting the pedal to the metal and hoping to grow my wholesale business exponentially this year. I am here to do the work and soak in the glory of what I have accomplished.
